Jet Lag – How to Combat it on your Summer Vacations

What is Jet Lag?

It’s hard to scoot around Harrods trying to look glam when all you want to do is go to bed in your jammies. Jet lag can do this to you. Although humans have always been travelers, we never suffered from boat-lag, car-lag or horse-lag. It’s only since planes have allowed us to move so fast that our brain might know we are in London during the day, but our body feels like it is night time in LA. Jet lag occurs when your body clock ‘lags’ behind (or in front) of local time.

What are the Symptoms of Jet Lag?

  • Fatigue.
  • Sleepiness in the daytime.
  • Insomnia.
  • Irritability.
  • Clumsiness.
  • Impaired judgment.

What causes Jet Lag?

Jet lag occurs when you cross time zones. Journeys going east are more difficult to adjust to than westward journeys. You can avoid jet lag completely if you only travel north to south, up and down along the same time zone – although this does limit your holiday choices and business destinations! The reason for the lag is that our body follows a 24-hour routine, known as the circadian rhythm. Body temperature drops at night, which is when we prefer to sleep. We urinate more during the day and hormones fluctuate according to the time within the 24-hour cycle. This all gets thrown out the window when you cross several time zones in just a few hours. With jet lag, your body clock doesn’t know whether it’s day or night, Arthur or Martha.

Jet lag is made worse by travel fatigue. Sitting down for many hours in seats designed by Lego, squished side-by-side like a can of sardines, your muscles are bound to cramp and tire. Even sardines get to lie down.

Reduced oxygen in the aircraft cabin can also play havoc with your wellbeing.

What to do about Jet Lag.

Jet lag remedies are like bad jokes: everyone has one. These have proven helpful to frequent travelers and airline staff.

Diet

  • Eat lightly. Choose salads and vegetables. Avoid heavy meals and creamy, spicy and rich food.
  • Eat meals according to your destination’s time zone. Most airlines adjust the meals to reflect this, which is why you might find yourself eating breakfast at 1 am.
  • If you’re not hungry – Don’t eat. There is no rule that says you have to eat every meal that is served. Often it’s due to boredom rather than hunger.
  • The air circulating in planes is as dry as a potato chip. Dehydration can increase jet lag, so ensure that you drink plenty of water – 200 ml per hour at least.
  • Drink no more than a glass of wine with dinner – except French champagne; see below – as alcohol is a diuretic, causing you to become even more dehydrated. It can also disrupt sleeping patterns.
  • Drink coffee only when it is morning time at your destination.

Remedies

  • To help you sleep at night, try a herbal tablet, tincture or tea containing valerian, passion flower, hops, Californian poppy and/or chamomile.
  • To help you stay alert in the morning, try an herbal preparation containing Siberian or Korean ginseng, gotu kola and/or damiana.
  • Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain, helps to balance out our circadian rhythms. Take an hour before you wish to sleep. Homoeopathic Melatonin may also prove helpful.
  • The homoeopathic remedy, Arnica, is terrific for jet lag – take a dose every two (2) hours while awake.
  • If you suffer from anxiety when flying, take some Bach Rescue Remedy as well as the herb, Kava.
  • If you are prone to water retention, take a 100 mg tablet of Vitamin B6 with each meal.
  • Deep vein thrombosis is a very real threat for those who take long-haul flights. A blood clot can form, usually in the calf, which may result in a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism. Vitamin E, Gingko Biloba, Butcher’s Broom and a remedy made from Japanese natto miso, Nattokinase, can help. Take singly or in combination for a few days before and after your journey.
  • Sitting in a crowded plane increases your chance of catching a cold. To prevent this from happening, take Echinacea for a week before, as well as during your flight.

Other

  • The trick is to set your watch to the time of your destination as soon as you embark. This means that you try and sleep when it is night-time at your destination and eat at your destination’s meal times.
  • The downside to drinking water is the need to urinate, which can be inconvenient when you are in the middle seat. However, a trip to the bathroom can double as ‘exercise’.
  • For flights over 6-7 hours, you will need to exercise to prevent swelling of the ankles and legs and prevent ‘economyclassitis’ (also known as deep vein thrombosis, a potentially fatal condition that comes from being cramped in a confined space for hours). Some airlines offer a set of exercises on information sheets or via their onboard entertainment system. At the very least, wear comfortable shoes and every hour or so stretch and scrunch your toes. In addition, rotate your ankles clockwise and counter-clockwise hourly, as well as standing and walking when you are able.
  • Gentle exercise, moving your legs and compression stockings can all help prevent DVT.
  • If it is sunny when you arrive, stay outside for an hour or so, without sunglasses. This is to allow the sunlight to hit the retina, be registered by the pineal gland and promote the production of natural melatonin.
  • When you arrive, if it is night-time, take a hot bath with Lavender Oil.
  • If you have the time, try to break up your journey with overnight stops. This will greatly reduce jet-lag.
  • Travel first class. French champagne is known to prevent jet lag and travel fatigue. Dosage: one glass per hour.
  • Exercise for twenty to forty minutes as soon as you can after arriving at your destination. Swimming is the best exercise, preferably in the sunshine. (Shopping is not exercise).
  • Meditate regularly during the flight. Many people swear that meditating banishes jet lag.
  • Sitting for hours and hours can lead to water retention and bloating. Don’t wear tight-fitting clothes or shoes, walk around, and if possible put your feet up.

Aromatherapy

To deter jet lag, the goal is to promote alertness, energy, strength, stamina and balance within the nervous system. Blend the following essential oils with 10 ml of jojoba oil, 10ml carrier oil, or 10 ml of coconut oil. Use as a needed throughout and after the journey.

Alternatively, this blend can be combined with purified water and an essential oil solubiliser and used as a personal spritzer.

  • 7 drops of peppermint oil – alertness, strength
  • 6 drops of rosemary CT Cineole oil – mental fatigue, balance, strength
  • 4 drops of black pepper oil – focus, strength and stamina
  • 3 drops of geranium oil – balance, uplifting, energizing

August 2016

Unlike most other developed countries— currently 64 countries have laws mandating labeling GMO foods, including the 15 nations in the European Union, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Russia and China—the U.S. has none.  Yet polls have repeatedly shown that the overwhelming majority of Americans—over 90% in most polls—believe GMO foods should be labeled. Of those 64 countries that mandate labeling GM foods, many, including the European Union, Russia, Japan and even China, ban them outright.

In the spring of 2000, the FDA made the announcement that labeling of GE foods would remain voluntary, even though there was no indication that any company would voluntarily label GE foods.  And in the 12 years since, none have.  Companies who have eliminated GE ingredients to add “NON-GMO” labels to their products have faced tight regulations and litigation challenges from industry, while the FDA allows other companies to continue to use GE ingredients without acknowledgement.

In 2011, The Center for Food Safety submitted a formal legal petition to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on behalf of over 650 companies and organizations demanding that the FDA require the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods. In 2014, individual states, such as Vermont, began taking action.

Forward to 2016: Dan Charles, NPR’s food and agriculture correspondent recently stated: “After years of bitter debate and legislative stalemate over the labeling of genetically modified ingredients, a compromise proposal sailed through Congress in breathtaking speed over the past three weeks.” The House of Representative passed the measure on Thursday, July 14 with solid support from both Democrats and Republicans. It now goes to the White House, where the White House says President Obama is expected to sign it. This would nullify a Vermont GMO labeling law that kicked in on July 1, 2016.

Within a few years, consumers will be able to find out whether any food contains GMO ingredients, but they won’t necessarily see that information on the package. Food companies will not be required to print the information on the package labels. Instead, consumers may have to scan a “QR code” found in the aisles of grocery stores, or the food labels may carry a text label, a symbol or an electronic code readable by smart phones that will indicate whether the food contains genetically modified ingredients. The Department of Agriculture will have two years to write the rules. The passage of this bill is a pretty big slap in the face to the poor, elderly, & disenfranchised. Actually, it’s a big slap in the face to everyone except the food companies. It’s quite obvious that the sudden push by both parties in Congress to present an agreed upon bill was to squash Vermont’s GMO labeling law.

There is also another elephant in the house regarding the labeling rules. The law leaves many details of the new labeling scheme to be worked out by the Department of Agriculture. These include, for instance, whether refined products like soy oil or sugar from beets will need to be labeled. While they are made from GMO crops, the final product doesn’t contain any genetically modified material, such as proteins or DNA.

As the Alliance for Natural Health stated: “The GMO Labeling Bill Is A Pen Stroke Away From Becoming Law.” DON’T DELAY: Before the president signs this bill, please contact your Senators and the White House and tell them you oppose this legislation. Texts and faxes to your senators and representatives, followed up by a phone call, are the best ways for making your voice heard. LET THE WHITE HOUSE KNOW THAT AMERICANS DO NOT WANT THIS LAW AS IT IS WRITTEN AND REQUEST THAT THE PRESIDENT NOT SIGN IT.

As this newsletter goes out, the President has not yet signed the bill. It is imperative that citizens contact their Senators and the White House before the clock runs out and it becomes a law. ACT NOW!   And…support the endeavors of the Sunshine Health Freedom Fund’s efforts to help us keep our freedoms free.

Note from Joy: Unfortunately, President Obama signed into legislation the GMO Food Labeling Bill on July 29. We now need to flood the White House and our Congressmen in Washington for support in convincing the president to rescind this legislation.
This law sets a dangerous precedent to override the sovereignty of states, as many state labeling laws, including Vermont’s recently enacted GMO labeling law, are now void.
The info on the GMO labeling is accurate – We can use this info in contacting our Senators and Representatives. Contact number for the White House is 866-942-5138.

We love sharing our travel adventures with our Internet friends. The yummy part is that many of these trips are “earned” trips, all expenses paid, through Nature’s Sunshine Products incentives and rewards programs. What a great life of ‘people helping people’ to better health and financial success and being rewarded for doing it!

This series of photos are from our May 2016 Alaska cruise trip through the Inside Passage with many fascinating port stops along the way. When we weren’t sightseeing, we luxuriated in our Celebrity Cruise Lines suite and experienced on-board activities. Ports included Ketchikan, Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway, Juneau, Victoria, BC, and Seattle. Since we have visited Alaska numerous times, we chose excursions we had not experienced on previous visits.

The series of photos begins in Ketchikan with our take off on a float plane over the Misty Fjords. The pilot chose Dick to co-pilot the plane, so he had an upscale view of everything. Joy, who was seated in the back, was happy with this arrangement since Dick has pilot experience. We began our adventure by ascending to the Misty Fjords National Monument, the nation’s second largest wilderness region. Then, onward to New Eddystone Rock, a striking volcanic spire and remnant of early geological activity, plus waterfalls, glacial lakes and wildlife. After these exhilarating adventures, our pilot landed on a lovely lake in the Misty Fjords where we enjoyed incredible scenery and the peaceful and undisturbed silence of this monumental wild country while standing on the floats of the plane and then disembarking onto a man-made pier in the midst of this gigantic body of water to take more photos and enjoy the beauty that nature had provided us.

Our next excursion adventure was riding the Mount Roberts Tramway to a height of 1800 feet above the harbor of Juneau into the Alaskan rainforest. We enjoyed breathtaking views of the Chilkat Mountains, waterfalls, and Silver Bow Basin, where gold was discovered in 1880. At the summit, we visited the Mountain House and explored the Nature Center.  During our descent, we saw deer and other wildlife feeding on the slopes of Mount Roberts.

Our last two photos are of downtown Ketchikan. And, yes – there were shops in all of our ports for Joy to explore for those irresistible “must haves.”

Our final port was Victoria, BC, which is not pictured. This tranquil and beautiful city is very British in landscaping and is a port we have always enjoyed visiting on previous trips to Alaska, especially the waterfront and the Empress Hotel.

Next Excursion, thanks to Nature’s Sunshine: Ireland in August 2016. Stay tuned in for a recapitulation of this trip!

In Honor of Health Freedom Fighter – Clinton Miller

Clinton Ray Miller
Clinton Ray Miller

Clinton Ray Miller, known as the Father of Health Freedom, passed away three years ag on on July 24, 2013, in Cedar city, Utah. He had a huge influence on the freedoms we enjoy in the health industry. Clinton was a true fighter extraordinaire for what he believed to be true and dedicated his entire life making these dreams a reality for all. This month we honor a life well lived!

In 2003, Clinton Described his entry into the politics of health freedom: “My life as a health freedom activist started about 50 years ago in Salt Lake city, Utah. I started one of the first health bakeries in the United States. I called it Clinton’s Wheat Shop. My motto was “The Whiter the Bread, the Sooner You’re Dead”. It was printed in bold letters on the back of my truck and on the label of every loaf of bread we sold. We made 100% whole wheat “HEALTH BREAD”. We ground the wheat fresh every day on stone burr mills. It was made without any preservatives.”

Clinton Miller was the pioneer of all pioneers, working to protect health freedom for all Americans. His conviction that “Health Freedom is second only to Religious Freedom” was the foundation of his life’s work. Clinton began his public freedom work when a Utah health food store asked him if he would debate fluoridation with the head of the Utah State Dental Health Division. In 1961 Clinton was invited to represent National Health Federation in Washington DC. He moved his wife Bonnie and their family to Washington and became their star lobbyist. Leaders attribute the successful passage of the Proxmire bill, after a 17 year battle, to Clinton Miller. The bill protected Vitamins from drug dosage regulations and prohibited the DFA from setting upper limits of dosages for Vitamins in the Untied States. Clinton went on to work tirelessly with people from across the country to help pass the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), establishing that all dietary supplements are to be regulated as nutrients and foods and not drugs. He became famous for his “Clinton One page Faxes”. With Clinton’s encouragement, millions of faxes shut down legislative offices and he considered them the torpedo weapon of the health freedom movement.

In 2000, Clinton turned his attention to state health freedom efforts becoming a vibrant Board Member of National Health Freedom Action and working for Sunshine Health Freedom Foundation immersing himself into the state politics of safe harbor legislation to protect natural health and traditional practitioner from getting prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license. He was a guiding force in seven states obtaining safe harbor laws. Americans are forever indebted to Clinton Ray Miller for his tireless work protecting health freedoms. Leaders promised him that Americans will continue his work in the spirit of freedom and honor. Clinton always reminded leaders that each person, every leader, every legislator, every Congressman, is a good person, and is educable, and claimed that in the situation of debate and conflict “the good guys always win”!

In the spirit of honoring Clinton Miller and his lifelong work on our behalf, please support Sunshine Health Freedom Foundation with your contributions via Nature’s Sunshine and other health freedom groups who are fighting for our right to remain free and true to our beliefs of being able to make choices on how we treat our bodies. Much of the freedoms we enjoy today are because of the efforts of Clinton Miller.

Nature’s Sunshine Launches Program to Reverse Cardiometabolic Dysfunction

HEALTH & WELLNESS , PRESS RELEASES , UTAH COUNTY

Press Release Apr 18, 2016

Lehi—Nature’s Sunshine Products, Inc., a leading natural health and wellness company engaged in the manufacture and direct selling of nutritional and personal care products, launched a new patent-pending program at its April National Convention that addresses many of the most prominent health trends associated with poor metabolic function. Nature’s Sunshine’s new IN.FORM program was clinically studied in the Hughes Center for Research and Innovation and demonstrates superior health benefits to other published programs on the market today.

The results of the IN.FORM program speak for themselves. Using the median figures, study participants who received the IN.FORM supplements lost 17 pounds of fat and 26 pounds overall. They also saw great improvements in other key health indicators already in the healthy range, such as triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and insulin levels.

When compared to the control group who only used the program diet, those individuals who used the complete IN.FORM product system experienced over 50% greater fat loss, over 50% more weight loss and between a 66% and 80% greater decrease in other key cardiovascular health indicators already within the healthy range.

“New scientific research is deepening our understanding of how poor metabolic function affects overall health,” said Dr. Matthew Tripp, Chief Scientific Officer of Nature’s Sunshine. “We designed the IN.FORM program to target gut health and to comprehensively address cardiometabolic function at its roots.”

The patent-pending IN.FORM program combines Nature’s Sunshine’s exclusive products with positive lifestyle changes to provide a holistic, multi-mechanistic solution with powerful results, including reductions in weight, fat, triglycerides and total cholesterol already within the healthy range.

Approved by an independent review board, the clinical study consisted of two intervention arms. The control arm received a special high-protein, high phytonutrient food plan along with lifestyle changes and exercise recommendations. The IN.FORM arm also received targeted nutritional supplements in addition to the food plan, lifestyle changes and exercise recommendations.

The IN.FORM program includes Nature’s Sunshine’s Metabolic Age Support Shakes, high-protein meal replacements featuring heart-healthy phytosterols and prebiotic fiber that feed the healthy bacteria of the microbiome. It also features CardioxLDL™, a unique patent-pending combination of powerful antioxidants that work to reduce the oxidation of cholesterol, a critical factor in cardiovascular health, and to support healthy cholesterol levels.

The IN.FORM program also provides a powerful probiotic containing 11 strains of friendly bacteria to help replenish the beneficial microflora of the intestines, and Berberine, which works to combat endotoxins that interfere with optimal gut performance and healthy glucose metabolism. IN.FORM is rounded out with essential daily nutrients from a multivitamin and heart healthy omega-3 fish oils.

“Nature’s Sunshine is proud to introduce the latest breakthrough innovation in natural health care with the clinically studied IN.FORM program,” said Gregory Probert, Chairman and CEO of Nature’s Sunshine. “Nature’s Sunshine is all about transforming lives through natural health, and that’s exactly what the IN.FORM program seeks to accomplish. We are excited to add to the clinical proof behind our industry-leading, high quality supplements.”

Dick’s Journey from Cancer Diagnosis to Cancer Free

On January 12, 2016, on the recommendation of my family practice medical doctor, I visited a Dermatologist for an evaluation of a small brown spot, which I assumed was a liver spot, on my right cheek that I noticed had begun to change in color. I left his office with an area that was the size of a large freckle biopsied. Several days later, the Dermatologist personally called me and quite directly told me the biopsy revealed that I had Melanoma skin cancer and that beneath the skin it was quite broad and a Stage 0-1 Melanoma. Furthermore, he told me that he had personally scheduled me for surgery several days later with a Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon who specialized in treating melanoma.

After concluding the call and telling my wife Joy of the diagnosis, I was left with the feeling that I had been placed on an assembly line conveyor belt, not of my choosing. I immediately called the surgeon and rescheduled my surgery for one week later for the purpose of exploring my options.

After several days, I decided to go ahead with my previously scheduled plans to attend the International Iridology Practitioners Association (IIPA) Symposium in Las Vegas. Attending the symposium in Las Vegas turned out to be a wise decision. Many of the speakers and attendees were medical doctors with experience in treating melanomas, including Dr. Jiminez, an oncologist who owns and practices in two clinics, one in the USA and one in Cancun. His lectures were technical and enlightening, as were those from a Neuro Surgeon from Taiwan. I was fortunate to have individual consults with each of them plus several other doctors.

The day after returning from Las Vegas, I kept my appointment with my Dermatologist. He sent in his nurse to prepare me for a second biopsy, three weeks after the first one. I declined to have another biopsy. I wanted time to continue healing and to absorb all that I had learned at the symposium before I took another step. The Dermatologist was not pleased with my decision. He explained that since I had canceled the surgery twice and now did not wish to have another biopsy, he was required by law, and to protect himself, to write me a letter pointing out that I had refused his recommended cancer treatment for Melanoma Cancer. This letter would be sent to me to sign and returned to him to file with the Medical Ethics Board. He also explained that as time progressed, the cancer would grow and my alternative treatment would kill some of the cancer but ultimately would not kill it all and it would disperse to other areas. This concept, in part, was consistent with what Dr. Jiminez told me in Las Vegas. This being said, the Dermatologist left the room and his nurse returned saying I was to “come back when you will have your next biopsy.” During this time, Joy and I discussed me having a consult appointment with the surgeon, which pleased the Dermatologist. He scheduled the appointment for me. The appointment with the surgeon was a complete, polite and caring experience, where she explained in detail exactly what the surgery would entail.
After this, I took the following steps:
* I asked for and received a spiritual healing from our creator.
* I gave thanks for this blessing and never allowed doubt to enter my mind.
* I gave and continue to give many affirmations of gratitude each day, confirming that I am cancer-free.
* Understanding that God expects us to do our part, I reviewed my options: cut, burn or poison in the USA, or travel to Cancun for a natural cure (lovely trip but expensive).

Then it occurred to me that I am knowledgeable of many of the holistic protocols for treating cancer naturally, and I have many highly qualified friends and acquaintances with whom I could consult as I pursued my path to becoming cancer free. I began by using kinesiology to muscle test herbal protocols and products one at a time on a daily basis. It’s amazing how one’s body speaks to ones self if we just listen to what it is telling us! It’s also amazing that I had not proactively used my knowledge of the healing power of herbal products in the beginning.

I learned thru muscle testing that using Pau D’Arco Lotion and Pau D’Arco capsules were two herbal products that my body needed. I also received strong confirmations to drink Pau D’Arco/Taheebo Tea. I completely eliminated coffee from my diet, which I modified to 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 high quality protein, and severely limited my intake of sugars. As I normally do, I drank only pH balanced pure water, 3-4 quarts per day, knowing that these changes would halt the progression of my cancer but probably not cure it. I doubled my consumption of Immune Stimulator so that I would keep my immune system strong and functioning during its battle with the cancer.

Next, I was told by a very knowledgeable herbalist that Frankincense Oil, mixed 50/50 with a carrier oil, will kill melanoma cancer cells. Since my cancer by then covered a large area, I decided to apply it heavily to my entire face, which after a few days ballooned up like a pumpkin and I could barely open my eyes, looking out through small slits that were not sealed shut. Since Nature’s Sunshine was arriving in two days to interview us and film our business, I stopped the Frankincense Oil application for four days and began applying Vitamin E Oil for healing. I had to wear makeup during the two day visit from NSP, which my daughter artfully applied each morning, during the filming because my face was red, blue and purple. After I resumed use of the Frankincense Oil, I used lesser amounts and applied only to the affected areas. (An interesting note is that initially we were out of Carrier Oil, so I used Coconut Oil as a carrier. It was after I switched to the carrier oil that I experienced the swelling – to me this is proof of the quality and action of our carrier oil versus using a substitute).

At this point, I was muscle testing for being healed of my cancer by May 9, and I scheduled with the dermatologist for a biopsy on that date. Knowledge again took over, and I remembered NSP’s former Health Science Director Dr. Jerry McLaughlin and his 35 years of research on Paw Paw. I wanted to speed up my healing process as much as possible so I could tell my success story to people at Nature’s Sunshine’s Convention in April. I added Paw Paw Cell Reg to my regime, testing only for 1 in the morning and 1 each evening, knowing the Paw Paw would prevent the cancer cells from reproducing.

Within days, I muscle tested that I was cured and on March 25, I had my last biopsy done. On April Fool’s Day, I was pronounced cancer free. It was a long wait to get the results but I had been told that it would be at least one week before all the microscopic testing and analysis would be completed. What a great day this will always be in my memory bank! I give credit for my healing to prayer, God’s support, the vast array of wonderful natural herbal products that are a part of my daily diet, and to those I know and love who were such a strong support team for me.

In conclusion, I believe that several of the reasons that I still live an active life at age 87 is because of the continuing education and par excellent products from Nature’s Sunshine. They put a spring in my step and joy into my life!

In addition to the herbal products I took during my battle with melanoma, I continued to take my repertoire of Nature’s Sunshine products that I consume on a daily basis. I always take quite a few of the Core Health products to meet my body’s needs for continued good health and healing. During my cancer treatment phase, I seriously increased my consumption of Citrus Bioflavonoids, not only to support my Immune System and increase collagen production, but to also increase the tissue healing without scarring.

May 2016

821: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has introduced the “BPA in Food Packaging Right to Know Act”, a bill that would require food companies to label packaging that contains BPA. Email or phone your senators that you have a right to know about BPA in food packaging. Ask them to support S. 821. This important bill would not only make sure consumers know which food packages contain BPA, but also instruct the FDA to investigate the hazards of trace exposures to BPA through food packaging.

The dangers of the toxic chemical bisphenol A are no secret. Even tiny amounts of BPA can disrupt the endocrine system. It has been linked to a wide variety of ills, including infertility, cancer, obesity, diabetes, early puberty, behavioral changes in children and resistance to chemotherapy. In other words, it has no place anywhere in our food or food packaging – yet it continues to be used to coat the insides of most of the 131 billion food and beverage cans made in the U.S. annually.

Last year, EWG scientists scrutinized more than 250 canned food brands and found that more than a third of them were still using BPA-based epoxy can linings for all their products. S. 821, the BPA in Food Packaging Right to Know Act would make sure American consumers know which products contain BPA and would empower the FDA to investigate and regulate it.

EWG’s strategic goals are to inspire, empower and unite Americans to live healthier, greener lives while protecting public health and the environment for generations to come. EWG’s groundbreaking research has changed the debate over environmental health. From households to Capitol Hill, their team of scientists, policy experts, lawyers, communication experts and programmers has worked tirelessly to make sure someone is standing up for public health when government and industry won’t.

* The above information obtained from EMG (Environmental Working Group). EWG commits to work on both state & federal issues. They are a good group to support, especially for National/Federal issues, which is an area where Nature’s Sunshine is lacking in support. (We all need to realize that State issues can become National issues and vice versa. Both areas need our constant support and representation).
